John Pilger Documentary

The following quote was taken from John Pilger’s documentary about Iraq shown earlier this year. If you'd like to see the whole video please get in touch and we can loan you copy. Alternatively we hope to be having a public screening with discussion afterwards sometime in the near future.

“What happens when modern civilised life is taken away? Imagine all the things we take for granted are suddenly not available or severely limited, such as clean water, fresh food, soap, pencils, paper, books, light bulbs and life-saving drugs. Imagine that… when you fall ill you must sell all your furniture to buy medicine, when you have a tooth out there's no anaesthetic, no country will trade with yours and your money is almost worthless. Soon your children become beggars. It's as if the world has condemned your whole society to a slow death... That's what has happened in Iraq, where almost ten years of extraordinary isolation imposed by the UN and enforced by America and Britain, have killed more people than the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan”.

- John Pilger, in “Paying the Price - Killing the Children of Iraq”
